Macau visitor arrivals up 9.9% year-on-year to 2,528,011 in September

According to information from Macau’s Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) visitor arrivals grew by 9.9% year-on-year to 2,528,011 in September, recovering to 91.4% of the same month in 2019. This included a 9.7% increase in visitors from mainland China to 1,743,695 arrivals, while those from Hong Kong grew by 1.2% to 541,129 arrivals and from Taiwan by 37.3% to 69,573 arrivals.

International arrivals also improved by 37.6% year-on-year to 173,614 and recovered to 92.7% of September 2019 levels. Korea led the way for the internationals with 39,890 arrivals, up 79% year-on-year, followed by the Philippines with 33,058 arrivals, up 33.8%.

September’s tally included 1,308,147 same-day arrivals and 1,219,864 overnight arrivals, up 15.6% and 4.3% year-on-year respectively. The average length of stay of visitors was 1.3 days, 0.1 days shorter than in September last year.

For the first three quarters of 2024 combined, Macau’s visitor arrivals totalled 25,920,914, representing a year-on-year increase of 30.1% and recovering to 85.8% of the corresponding period in 2019.

Visitors from mainland China increased by 36.3% year-on-year to 18,217,413 in the first three quarters, while arrivals from Hong Kong reached 5,402,071 and from Taiwan 623,880, up by 0.8% and 81.9% respectively.

International arrivals totalled 1,677,550 in the first three quarters, up 95.1% year-on-year and back to 70.7% of the same period in 2019. The Philippines led the way with 345,537 arrivals, up 75.6%, while Korea’s 341,497 arrivals were up 210% year-on-year.
